XAMPP: Another web server daemon with SSL is already running

This is a peculiar error you will get if you run XAMPP in LINUX.

Assumption: XAMPP is unzipped @ /opt/ folder.

If you get the error "XAMPP: Another web server daemon with SSL is already running" when you run "./lampp start". Simply follow the steps below to get rid of this error:

1. Open the file /opt/lampp/etc/httpd.conf
2. Search the "Listen 80" and change it to some other port (e.g. Listen 2145) (Line No. 40)
3. Open the file /opt/lampp/etc/extra/httpd-ssl.conf
4. Search the "Listen 443" and change it to some other port (e.g. Listen 16443) (Line No. 39)
5. Open the file "/opt/lampp/lampp"
6. Search for the port "testport 80" and replace it to "testport 2145". Also change the "testport 443" to "testport 16443". (Happens to be the Line No. 197, 214)
7. Now go and run "/opt/lampp/lampp start". (It should work now).

Informix - How to Install - Step by Step Guide

Installing Informix Server

Download the Installer File

1. Download the informix server developer edition from http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/im/ids/dev.html

a) You may have to create a new IBM id (if you don't have already) to download this installer.

2) Extract the downloaded zip file

Windows User Account

3) Create a windows user

a) Right click "My Computer" -> Manager -> Local Users & Groups

b) Create a new user called "informix" with password

c) Ensure that the "password never expires" option is checked

3) Execute the "ids_install.exe" file to start informix server installation

Typical Installation

4) Click "Next" until you get the "Setup Type" screen, wherein please choose "Typical" installation

Informix User Password

5) The setup will ask for informix user password. Enter the same "password" as you'd provided in the step 3 (creating windows user)

6) The setup should now install the server, client sdk and other required softwares in your system. Complete the installation.

Thus Installation Completed

Post Installation Configuration

1) After the installation you should have two new menus in Start -> Programs

a) IBM Informix 11.70

b) IBM Informix Client SDK

2) Go to Start -> Programs -> IBM Informix 11.70 -> "Server Instance Manager"

a) You should now see any existing server instances

b) If not, create a new one with default values

c) Note all the default values and click “continue”.

Informix Server

- Database server located on the host machine

HostName [default: your-machine-name]

- Name of the host machine with the Informix database server

Protocolname [default: turbo]

- Protocol determined by the configuration on the host machine

Service Name

- Service determined by the host configuration to communicate to the designated database instance

Select “Create New”

Note: Server number should be unique for every instance

Note: Server name should be unique for every instance

Note: Service name, port number should be unique for every instance

Provide the password of the Informix user created in windows

- Continue with the default values

Select “Yes”

A new menu item called "server-name" in Start -> Programs -> IBM Informix 11.70 should have been created by now.

Access Informix Database

Now you are all set to access informix database.

1) Go to Start -> Programs -> IBM Informix 11.70

2) Select any of the server instances [Example: ol_chn2422]

3) Type “dbaccess” and press enter

4) You should now be able execute sql queries using “Query-language”

Note: dbaccess is a command line tool, can be used to execute queries, create databases, create tables, insert rows, alter tables etc.,

Problem:

Google Maps API will not work if Javascript (JS) disabled.

Description:

Sometimes, we have to show the address/location/maps for those users who have disabled their javascript. This is because some users may have forgotten to enable their javascript after disabling it.

As you know, Google Maps API will only work if javascript is enabled. But

Solution:

By using noscript tag & google static maps, you will be able show maps to those who have disabled their javascript.

Example:

sensor:

Two of integrating Google Maps:
1. Static Map (Non JS/Javascript Version)
2. Dynamic Map (JS/Javascript Version)

1. Static Map using http://maps.google.com/maps/api/staticmap

This will just show the map and location. This will not have the zoom control, move and explore options.
This can be done using iframe, image tags
This is the easiest way of integrating Google maps into your website, if your intention is to just show the map & location
This doesn't require a maps API key

Oracle - Special Characters in SQL Query (& ampersand, ' single quote, etc.,)

Ever wonder how to skip special characters such as '&' and ' in oracle sql queries?

Problem #1:

Insert Query in Oracle doesn't allow '&'

Reason:

ampersand's (&) are treated as input variables. Example: if given insert into table values('&name'). It will

Solution:

Use "SET DEFINE OFF" before executing such queries and use "SET DEFINE ON" after execution.

Example:

SQL> SET DEFINE OFF

SQL> INSERT INTO TABLE VALUES('&name');

SQL> SET DEFINE ON

------------------------

Problem #2:

Insert Query values in Oracle doesn't skip single quotes (')

Reason:

Single quotes are not skipped by default in oracle as values are enclosed by single quotes (').

Example: insert into table values('Sister's Kitchen')

Solution:

Use another single quote in front of such values to skip (')

Example:

SQL> INSERT INTO TABLE VALUES('Sister''s Kitchen');

To Make Backspace & Delete Key work in Oracle SQLPLUS

It will be really irritating if the keys that was working for you in all the applications, but not in Oracle SQLPlus. I had to surpass this situation; I had struggled a lot and irritated about this behaviour as this made me lose nothing but the golden time.

After a couple of attempt and some google searches on oracle sqlplus documentation I made backspace and delete key working for me in SQLPLUS.

Here is the solution:

Run this command from your sqlplus "!stty erase [BACKSPACE]"

Note: Don't type "BACKSPACE" but press backspace key instead.

You can also add this into .cshrc / .kshrc / .profile

Some Other Tips in SQLPLUS:

Ctrl + Backspace - Back Arrow
1 - Will execute the last query that was successfully executed
edit - To edit the last query in the VI Editor
@/path/to/filename.sql - To execute a sql script file
@@filename.sql - To execute a sql script file which in the same directory from where you logged onto sqlplus

Forgot or Reset Drupal Login Account Password

Execute the following query on the Drupal database to reset the drupal:

UPDATE users SET pass=MD5('new_password') WHERE uid=1;

new_password -> is your new password
uid=1 -> denotes that you are changing the password for the admin/administrator user

Note: uid can be of any valid user drupal id.

How to Unset Drupal Clean URL Settings

You can uset the drupal clean url setting in three ways:

Method #1

1. Go to http://www.yourhost.com/?q=admin/settings/clean-urls
2. Unset clean URLs.

Method #2

Run the mysql commands:
UPDATE variable SET value = 's:1:"0";' WHERE name = 'clean_url';
DELETE FROM cache;

Method #3

Modify settings.php file to include the line
$conf['clean_url'] = 0;

setenv and unsetenv in C Shell

In the C shell, variables are exported if you set them with "setenv", but not it you set them with "set". Thus, if you want your shell variable modifications to be seen by any tool or script that you call, you should use the "setenv" builtin. This "setenv" builtin is the C shell equivalent to issuing an assignment statement with the "export" builtin in the Bourne shell.

setenv VAR "Value"
echo "VAR is '$VAR'."

If you want your shell variables to only be available to your script, you should use the "set" builtin. The "set" builtin is equivalent to a simple assignment statement in the Bourne shell.

set VAR "Value"
echo "VAR is '$VAR'."

To remove variables in the C shell, you can use the "unsetenv" or "unset" builtin.

If you need to test an environment variable (not a shell-local variable) that may or may not be part of your environment (a variable set by whatever process called your script), you can use the "printenv" builtin. This prints the value of a variable if set.

set X = `printenv VALUE`
echo "X is $X"

Will MySQL supports Query Caching?

The answer is “YES”

MySQL supports query caching if done some changes in the configuration file my.ini

Under [mysqld] section you can add,

query_cache_type = #query_cache_value#

#query_cache_value # can be any of the following,

query_cache_type = 0 => Caching is disabled
query_cache_type = 1 => Caching is enabled for all queries
query_cache_type = 2 => this requires adding the keyword SQL_CACHE to the queries that are to be cached

If defined “query_cache_type = 2”, then caching will be enabled for the queries which is mentioned SQL_CACHE in it.

Example

SELECT SQL_CACHE column1, column2 FROM table_name;

SELECT SQL_CACHE name, age FROM employees;

How to restore a mysqldump file?

Its a big question that will require answer only if something goes wrong. The answer is as simple as follows

Restore mysqldump file - Way1:

mysql -u username -p < /path-to/filename.sql

alternatively if its an automated restoration (wherein you won't be there to specify the password)

mysql -u username -ppassword < /path-to/filename.sql

Restore mysqldump file - Way2:

1. Login to mysql
2. Select the database you want to import the sql
e.g. use db_name;
3. Execute the sql script using source command.
e.g. source /path-to/filename.sql

Note: Please ensure that your .sql file contains a line "use dbname;"; otherwise it will end up with errors saying that "no database selected". In such a case, you can follow "Way2"
